When you discuss Moore swimming, one name has come up for four season; Elena Phan. Not only is she a leader in the pool, Phan is an all-around student-athlete who leads by example as an athlete and as a student in the classroom.

Phan started swimming competitively when she was seven years old. Now a senior, coach Landon Adamo said Phan is leaving a lasting legacy at MHS.

“She has become a notable figure for the Lions and has left a legacy that has set very high standards for years to come amongst the Moore swim team,” said Adamo.

Swimming the 200 IM, 500 freestyle, and the medley and freestyle relays, Phan said before she competes, visualization helps her before she gets in the water.

“Before I compete, I always listen to music to help settle my nerves and get me hyped. I also like to visualize the race, going through each part in my mind and imagining a positive outcome. This ritual usually keeps me relaxed and confident before I step up to compete,” said Phan.

Several teammates have left and impression on her including some of the new ones.

“A lot of my teammates have impressed me so far this season but one person that has stuck out to me is Emily Thaxton. Despite this being her first year swimming, she already has put up impressive times. I would have to say the biggest influence in my life has to be my club teammates Alondra and Bela. They consistently push me to not only be a better swimmer but a better person. Maddox McHenry keeps everyone laughing and Christian Davis is the most serious,” said Phan.

A member of the Key Club, National Honor Society, Student Council and Leadership, Phan plans to attend the University of Oklahoma and eventually go to med school.
