OUTLOOK

After making a trip to the 6A state quarterfinals last year, the Lions have their work cut out for them. Regardless, head coach Stephanie Riley is eager to field a new team. “Our 2024 team will have many new faces. Losing 11 seniors in 2023 opens many spots for underclassmen to emerge and shine,” Riley said. “We will have five seniors leading the charge to have a successful year and achieve the goals.” The Lions will look to win their first title since 2007 and fourth in program history. Reigning conference player of the year and Lions infielder Libby Jaques (Sr.) has all the talent; Now one of the team’s lone upperclassmen, the Oklahoma State commit will be expected to assume a greater leadership role. If you ask Riley, her senior first baseman is up for the task. “Libby is a quality athlete on both sides of the plate. She has speed and power and her softball IQ is impeccable,” Riley said. “Libby is a great role model and teammate for our squad. Her work ethic and drive never waivers.” Erika Summitt, though only a sophomore, has shown potential. “Erika had three senior pitchers she learned from last year, so the ball will be in her hand often this season,” Riley said. “She has a great drive and spin and understands how to complete a game. Erika will be fun to watch as she is a true competitor.” Shaylin Compton (Sr.) will be on the other side of the dish. She’s seen a thing or two in her career with the Lions, and her calm demeanor will be crucial to Moore’s success “Shae will be our senior catcher. She is amazing at controlling the game and keeping everyone on the field level-headed and working together,” Riley said. “Her softball sense and reaction to situations is amazing.”
