As MPS slow-pitch softball completes the first few games of the ’26 season, the Moore Lions and Westmoore Jags, jumped off to quick starts. Westmoore started the season 5-1 starting with a 8-7 victory over Moore before later in March going to Southmoore and picking up another win, 13-5. The Lady Lion of Moore were not as lucky starting the season 3-5, but did pick up wins over Yukon, Bartlesville and Bixby to work their way into a Top 10 ranking in Class 6A.
“Playing against cross towns team is fun. But also high-pressure and a challenge, because whoever wins gets bragging rights. We also get to play against our teammates from travel ball, which makes it even more competitive.” Moore High Senior Karlie Curtis said.
During the Moore v Westmoore game, both teams played back and forth. No one team took the reins, innings swaying towards both sides. Gaps were hit over and over, and the heat was a factor in the game as players slowed down hitting towards the later innings. Moore took on the top half first, getting up to bat.

“The game started off great. Both of us hit the ball over and over again in the first few moments, but our hitting slowed down too much. Westmoore started to hit more gaps, and they started towards the win.” Moore High Senior Payton Wilson said.
As the bottom half came into play, Westmoore took charge, hitting more gaps and maintaining high spirits throughout. The Moore War rivalry stayed strong, especially when the Jags were at the plate. The points consistently swayed ever so slightly, with the Jags on the higher side. The game ended cinematically with a winning run, letting Westmoore take home the win.
“It was a tough season for me overall, but the times I hit the ball really well, those moments stood out. When you connect like that, it’s a really great feeling. And honestly, just being there for the team meant a lot, too. Our team huddle is ‘Jags on Three’. It stuck and became a thing we do to keep spirit high and start us off.” Westmoore High Senior Cameron Roark said.
Not to be left out, Southmoore is currently ranked No. 4 in Class 6A with a record of 7-2 that includes wins over Moore, Yukon, Deer Creek, Norman and others under head coach James Lingo.
April will be a big month for all three teams as they get into the heart of the schedule in preparation for a big finish in May.
