No matter what sport an athlete plays, their goal is always the same. Be as successful as they can in that sport by working as hard as they can. Brea Lutz says that while hard work is important, there are other things that go into being successful.
“The success that I have enjoyed has taken a lot of self-improvement,” she said. “No matter how many balls you hit off a tee or pitches you throw in a week, it will get you nowhere if you don’t let yourself grow. You have to be able to accept new styles and strange advice and rule changes.”
Lutz is a senior at Moore High School, where she pitches and plays first base for the Lady Lions softball team. She has played softball for a majority of her life, as she began playing when she was four years old.
Throughout her life, Brea has had many people that have had an influence on her life. Out of all of them, she says that there is one that has had the biggest impact.
“My biggest role model would have to be my sister, Devyn,” Brea said. “She was a senior when I was a freshman and she also played softball. She has faced many problems and roadblocks and somehow still made it to college to get her engineering degree at the University of Oklahoma. She inspires me to be better, she makes me believe that no matter what I face I can be successful and build a path for myself.”
There have been some great memories made by Brea and her teammates over the years, but she said that there is one moment that is her favorite.
“The highlight moment of my career is when we made it to the slowpitch championship game my junior year,” she said. “I had watched state championship games before, but never been in one. The pure mix of joy and adrenaline that came from simply being there was a feeling like no other before, and I don’t think I’ll ever forget it.”
