The life of a parent of a high school student athlete can be a little busy at times, but Moore’s Erin Morrison would not have it any other way.
“I try to attend any event my kid is a part of,” she said. “He says I can be his momager so I try to keep him marketed on social media and get him to as many competitions as we can. My involvement with him and athletics is that I will support him in anything he wants to do. At this point, his goal is to play college football so we are planning for that next chapter. I just keep reminding him that playing football after high school is the next level no matter what location he ends up at.”
Morrison, who graduated from Union High School in Tulsa, is no stranger to athletics. She played soccer and was a cheerleader for the wrestling team. She has four kids, but only one that lives at home.
“My youngest son attends Moore high school,” she said. “He is a junior and he plays football, is a member of the wrestling team, and throws shot put and disc. I also have three bonus kids. I have a daughter in California and a son and daughter in Texas as well as two grandchildren.”
When she is not attending her son’s athletic events, Morrison has other things that keep her busy.
“My family owns Brandon’s Plumbing,” she said. “I work there as a bookkeeper. I am a member of the school board at Moore. I am also the vice president of the Moore Lions Quarterback Club. I love being a part of bigger things, especially things that have a positive impact on a child’s life. My ultimate favorite thing to do is watch my son and kids compete in athletics.”
Being a part of an athletic family is something that comes naturally to Erin.
“I think sports are the main focus in our lives because I have first-hand experience growing up in an athletic family,” she said. “We were faced with many options growing up and a lot of bad choices were avoided because our focus was on sports. I got to see firsthand what happens when you have too much idle time or lack of parental involvement.”
