Baseball Talk with Moore’s Ty Talkington – Presented by Eskridge Honda

Ty Talkington – Moore High School

By Trina Walker

A vital position in baseball is the catcher. Ty Talkington, a senior at Moore High School, plays catcher for the Lions.

“I like it because I get to control the game,” he said.

Ty has played baseball most of his life. His dad played and Ty remembers always being at the park with his oldest sister when he was young.

“I grew up around the game and I love the fact that you can fail four out of ten times and be the best ever because this is the hardest game out there.”

Ty follows advice that keeps him confident on and off the field.

“Just trust the work you’ve put in and never quit working to be better.”

He has learned to leave things that happened in the past behind.

“Keep going or it will drag you down,” he says.

Student-athletes represent their team and school, setting an example for others to look up to. Ty is aware of the importance of this role.

“You are the representation that people think about when they think about your school.”

A teammate who made a big impact on Ty was Reece Voegele. Reece was also a catcher.

“No matter what he came out with a smile on his face wanting the team to win.”

Ty’s favorite teacher is Mr. Dellinger from junior English.

“He was all about our success,” said Ty.

A fun memory was when Ty’s team learned their pitching coach’s first name.

“We were playing in Enid and went out to eat. They called our pitching coach by his first name, and nobody knew his name.”

This was a surprise to everyone, says Ty.

“I want to thank my parents because they have never missed a game. My dad for all the hours we spent to get me where I am today and my mom for traveling and taking off work no matter what so she could be at the games,” he said.

Ty is dedicated to baseball but that does not keep him away from another activity he loves. “I spend all my free time hunting or fishing.”

After high school he plans to play JUCO baseball. From there, the sky is the limit as he will take baseball as far as it will take him.
