For Moore High School varsity cheerleader Morgan Wilson, the foundation of a successful stunt is more than strength and technique. It is trust.
As a base for the Lady Lions, Wilson embraces the responsibility that comes with supporting her teammates and helping the squad perform at its best.
“I am a base on the squad. I love being a base because I get to be someone my teammates can depend on and I play an important role in helping make our stunts successful,” Wilson said.
That dependability has been shaped through eight years of competitive cheer. During that time, Wilson has won three NCA championships and one STUNT state championship, experiences that have reinforced the value of preparation and team connection.
“Cheer has taught me a lot about teamwork, dedication, trust, and pushing myself to improve,” Wilson said.
Now a junior, Wilson is part of a Moore program she says is defined by encouragement. While cheer demands focus in practices and competitions, she appreciates that her teammates also create an environment where athletes can enjoy the experience and build lasting relationships.
“What I love most about my team is how supportive everyone is of each other. We all push each other to be better while still having fun and making memories together. I really enjoy being surrounded by people who care about the team and want to see everyone succeed,” Wilson said.
Wilson said her family has played a major role in her development, providing support through the challenges that naturally come with competing and growing as an athlete.
“My family inspires me because they are always supportive of me and encourage me to keep working toward my goals. They have always been there for me through cheer and everything else, and they remind me to keep going even when things get challenging,” Wilson said.
She also points to teammate Ashlynn Beller as someone who has made a lasting impression through her attitude and reliability.
Looking ahead, Wilson plans to continue coaching youth All-Star cheer while pursuing other interests in college. She also remains focused on developing her tumbling and gaining confidence in her skills.
“One lesson I learned last year is the importance of trusting myself and my teammates. Cheer requires a lot of trust and communication, and things don’t always go perfectly. This season, I want to stay positive, learn from mistakes, and keep working instead of getting discouraged,” Wilson said.
