Moore High School senior outfielder Jordyn Norwood is easy to spot on the field, not just for the plays she makes in the grass, but for the way she gravitates toward her teammates. For Norwood, the Lady Lions’ success starts with a shared mindset and the connections built over long practices and long seasons. “I love how hard we work and that we all want to accomplish the same goals. I also like the bonds I have made with these girls.”
Those relationships are at the center of her motivation. Norwood says the people around her push her to raise her own standard, whether it is in workouts, games or the classroom. “My teammates inspire me because I spend most of my time with them, and they encourage me to work harder.” That support system extends beyond school ball and into travel softball, where she points to longtime teammate and friend Malia Tini as someone who has helped her through tough stretches. “My teammate on my travel team, Malia Tini, because she is a great teammate and friend and has worked with me through difficult times.”
On the field, Norwood patrols the outfield, where she embraces both the pressure and the excitement of the position. “I play outfield, and I enjoy making cool and hard plays.” She trusts her bat as a strength of her game, but she is not satisfied with just one asset. “I have a good bat, and I am hoping to become a stronger overall player.” That drive shows up during summer, where she has been busy with workouts and club ball. “Summer workouts are going well. I am having a lot of fun. I have two tournaments left, which this week I am playing at Devon Park. My grandparents from Hawaii came to watch me play in person for the first time.”
Norwood also excels in the classroom as a member of the National Honor Society, and she is already thinking ahead to life after Moore. “I am a senior, and I would like to play softball while also trying to become a vet.” As she heads into her final high school season, she carries a simple but important lesson. “Don’t worry about what other people have to say, just be yourself.”
